Sassy under the table, waiting for a morsel to fall

I started this blog because I wanted to learn to enjoy cooking more.  I love food.  I love eating food.  I watch cooking shows all the time.  But the act of actually cooking?  Meh.  Not so much.  When you’re a stay-at-home mom of three, preparing food is often lumped in with the household chores–one more thing to get done.    Often dinner is relegated to the fastest (and in some instances the least nutritious) thing we can get slapped onto several plates by a certain time.

Then there’s the rut of making the same things over and over.  We all get bored with the never ending rotation of meals that we tend to stick with, so I have decided it’s time to try some new and different recipes.  Of particular interest are quick and easy recipes that will not leave my kitchen looking as if a bomb went off in there.  I will share them here in this blog, along with photos of my furry kitchen assistants, my Corsos Rama, Sassy and Cairo.  Since I make their food myself, when I start shuffling about in the kitchen they are usually right there, expecting something to magically appear in their bowls.  The sounds of the cutting board or the blender bring them running.

Part of being a mom (to children or dogs) is feeling good about nourishing their minds and bodies.  So while I’m in there chopping veggies with a dog sleeping on my foot and another one right behind me, a toddler standing on the step stool so she can see what I’m doing, I am trying to make more of an effort to enjoy these moments.  They say the kitchen is often the heart of the home.

I believe “they” are right.

  3. Hello newest Spikey! I know, a bit corny, eh, but that’s the term that has come to stick for those folk who are part of the clan known to be followers of Uncle Spike 🙂

Thank you… I really appreciate that as I for one, know how many interesting and entertaining blogs are out there.

My aim is to deliver an eclectic offering of posts, from my ‘point n shoot’ attempts at basic photography, to the sharing of my travel adventures over the decades, as well as day to day happenings here on the farm. Oh, plus a few observations on life as I see it, thrown in for good measure.

My promise to you is not to be overbearing, just a couple of posts a day, maybe 3 at weekends if I have something special to share. But if you are at a loose end one day, maybe you’ll enjoy trawling through some of my older stuff too. I have added plenty of categories to help in said digging process.

Thanks again and hope you have a great day…
